Betting Glossary
New to online betting or just want to sharpen your knowledge? These are the terms every player in Malaysia should understand before placing their first bet or spin.
Understanding these concepts gives you a real edge — smarter betting, better bankroll decisions, and fewer surprises.
Asian Handicap
A form of football betting that eliminates the draw result by giving one team a head start or deficit in goals. Popular across Malaysia and Southeast Asia, Asian Handicap betting typically offers better value than traditional 1X2 markets because the bookmaker splits the risk more evenly between two outcomes.
Over-Under (Totals)
A bet on whether the combined score of both teams in a match will be above or below a set number (e.g., Over 2.5 goals in an EPL fixture). It's one of the simplest sports bet types — you don't need to pick a winner, just predict the scoring tempo.
Odds Formats
Betting odds can be displayed in three main formats: Decimal (e.g., 2.50 — common in Malaysia and Europe), Fractional (e.g., 3/2 — common in the UK), and American (e.g., +150 — used in the US). Decimal odds are the most intuitive: multiply your stake by the decimal to get your total return including stake.
RTP (Return to Player)
The percentage of all wagered money that a slot machine or casino game will theoretically pay back to players over a very large number of spins. A slot with 96.5% RTP will, on average, return MYR 96.50 for every MYR 100 wagered — though individual sessions vary wildly due to variance.
House Edge
The mathematical advantage the casino holds over players on any given game, expressed as a percentage. Baccarat has a low house edge (~1.06% on Banker bets), while some side bets can carry a house edge above 10%. Knowing the house edge helps you pick games with better odds.
Wagering Requirement
Also called rollover or playthrough — this is the number of times you must wager your bonus amount before you can withdraw any winnings derived from it. For example, a MYR 100 bonus with a 10x wagering requirement means you must place MYR 1,000 in bets before withdrawing. Always check this before claiming a bonus.
Live Dealer Casino
Games streamed in real-time from a professional studio or real casino floor, with a human dealer managing the cards, wheel, or dice via webcam. You place bets through an on-screen interface. Live Baccarat, Live Roulette, and Live Blackjack are the most popular live dealer formats at bonus88.
Slot Volatility
Also called variance — describes how frequently a slot pays out and how large those payouts tend to be. High volatility slots pay less often but can deliver massive wins. Low volatility slots pay more frequently but in smaller amounts. Choose your volatility based on your bankroll and risk appetite.
Progressive Jackpot
A jackpot that grows over time as a small portion of every bet placed by all players across the network contributes to the prize pool. Progressive jackpots can reach millions of Ringgit before being triggered by one lucky player — and then reset to a base amount and grow again.
Cashback
A rebate on your net losses over a set period — typically calculated weekly. If you lost MYR 500 in a week and your cashback rate is 1%, you receive MYR 5 back into your bonus wallet. Higher VIP tiers at bonus88 enjoy higher cashback percentages, making it a meaningful long-term loyalty benefit.
